I was in Venice with my friend Katherine, on a working holiday. We finished our makeup services for our Chanel VIP clients and decided to stay a few more days to enjoy Venice.
One evening, we went to the market to pick up some snacks and fruits. Katherine picked up some cherries. I do like cherries myself too, I don’t remember the last time I had some. We sat down in our hotel room and started chatting about life, boyfriends and maybe about work… Katherine then took out that box of cherries and started cleaning them for us to eat… I told her how I started developing some kind of allergies a few years ago, found out about it when I was in Taiwan, in quarantine, while touring with The Lion King as a makeup artist. I took a bite of that apple, and the first time ever in my life
I thought I was going to die.
But I didnt.
Katherine looked at me in shocked and asked me multiple times if I was sure I can have these cherries. I shrugged and said … I guess we will find out! Popped one in my mouth, chewed for a few seconds, swallowed.
And within a few seconds, my throat felt like it was growing hair. Katherine was looking at me with concern while I laughed it off, ‘I’ll be fine… but can you imagine if I died because of a cherry?!’ At that moment I just thought that would be such a cool thing to be engraved on my tombstone… ‘Death by cherry.’ Katherine relaxed as I joked about my own death. My mind started working in that instant, and came up with the idea of a punk band’s name called ‘D3AtH BY CHERRIES’. Katherine loved it, and I held on to this image in my head till now.
I understand there are people out there that has serious allergies too, and it is not a thing to be joked about. But hey, I’m only just joking about MY own death. I was willing to die just to have a taste of a cherry, knowing I will probably have a reaction to it. Rock N’ Roll.
OKAY. DON’T eat anything that you are allergic to. Please.
